- "Look! Mommy, it's a train!"
- "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! A bunny!"
- "Hey, Mommy! I see a goat!"
Knowing that my little guy is experiencing something that could create a memory he'll carry around for the rest of his life, puts that little warm feeling in my heart. You know the one.
Yesterday, we took the train down to a local petting zoo and my kiddos got to see llamas, horses, ponies, bunnies, goats, guinea pigs, and tons of other cool things that I will hear about for the next couple months. L was so beside himself with happiness that we just got to get on the "really, really big train," and then to be greeted with a petting zoo afterward. I thought he was going to explode, he was so overjoyed.
Oh, and let me tell you. People who were watching me and my two girlfriends trying to get six kids on the train in a timely fashion, had to have been laughing their tushies off. I mean, seriously, it was hilarious. Well, not at the time, I guess. The train pulls up and all three of the big kids are so mesmerized and, honestly, look like, well, a moth to a flame. "Hey! Don't touch that! Come here! Actually, get in there and sit your tush in a seat, please!" We shuffle them on to the train and then make them sit down. Meanwhile, the babies are still on the platform in the strollers. The conductor is telling us to hurry it up and I'm just praying the train doesn't close the doors and send our three year-olds for a spin around the county. Then, we have to hoist our double strollers up the three massive steps in to the passenger car. We finally get everybody on the train and by this time my body temperature has risen about 10 degrees. We have about 15 minutes on the train before we have to do the same thing in reverse when we get to our destination. I needed a glass of wine by the time we arrived at the petting zoo. It was 9:15 in the morning, so this would have looked a little strange. But, maybe not. Sweaty moms, chugging down a glass of merlot twelve feet from the train station, six kids in tow. I dunno. Maybe that happens all day long.
Before the chaos |
After the chaos. Behind the camera, you will find me, hyperventilating. |
Oh, yeah. Did I mention my kid got bit by a guinea pig? I asked the lady tending to the bunnies and guinea pigs that ran to his rescue if this happens often and she told me, "No, not really." I laughed and thought to myself, "Only L would be so stubborn to not let go of a piece of lettuce that a guinea pig bites him."
After the guinea pig took a chomp out of him. He's showing me his Handy Manny band aid the lady gave him. |
L found the most docile guinea pig in the bunch and walked around with it for a good 15 minutes. I was so fearful he was going to strangle the poor creature. At one point he says to me," Mommy, this one's going to sleep." I was like, "oh geez. Let me see?" I checked to make sure it was still breathing, told him to loosen his grip, and made him sit down with the thing. Who's read Of Mice and Men?
It was such a fun day and even though, it messed up the nap/bedtime schedule for the rest of the day, it was totally worth it. Check out these awesome hanging tea light holders I found while we were strolling through all the local shops. Aren't they awesome? Did I say awesome enough in that paragraph?
Alright, if you haven't had enough of the hostess gifts, then I have another one for you. I used Bath & Body Works stuff again, an empty Starbucks frappucino box, and more Stampin' Up! products.
Don't forget about the CRAZY CUTE link party. ;)
Wow, that looks like a really fun time (minus the bite). The reference to Of Mice & Men made me laugh out loud. I absolutely love what you did for the hostess gift!
ReplyDeleteIf I continue to read your blog at work....I'm afraid I'll be looking for a new job, since laughing out loud for what appears to be no good reason, while sitting alone at my desk can't be good for career advancement. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's adorable! I love reusing containers and yours came out so pretty! Would love you to join me at A Crafty Soiree, every Thursday.
ReplyDeletePS: You and your group of girlfriends are brave getting on that train! The pictures are so sweet and you are so funny to read! It's even better that even after getting bit L was able to give it another try!
Visiting from the "its so very Cheri" link party. Very cute hostess gift, what a great reuse. And, you have such a great sense of humor, good quality in a mom to two preschoolers!
