Apple Orchard Visit with the Family and Art Cable System

The past couple weeks I have done apple themed lesson plans with the kidlets and so I thought it only appropriate to take them to an apple orchard and show them that apples don't just appear on the shelves at Target all by themselves.

We picked up my mom, step-dad, and Grandma, piled everyone in the car and drove the 1.5 hours to Oak Glen, CA. It was absolutely awesome! It seemed like we had stepped in to a completely different state or time. We started out by driving the "Scenic Loop" and spotted what we thought was the best orchard. Oh, I can't forget about the two dogs that we spotted just roaming around the mountain road we were driving along. My mom and I decided to get out of the car and attempt to get the dogs so that we could call the number that was on their exposed collars. (I have to point out that this is classic me and my mom. We just do this kind of thing, like, all the time.)

Then, after those shenanigans we went to Los Rios Apple Farm. We watched how apple cider was made, then we tasted some real honest to goodness apple cider, we took some pictures with their pumpkins, peeked at an old cider press and then went to lunch. It was a very cool time. The only bummer was we waited too long and the apples were (apparently) all picked off the trees by the time we asked about it. So, we didn't go apple picking. AND, I didn't get an awesome picture with the kiddos standing in front of a nice big apple tree.
So, as we are leaving this small apple town, I spot this great photo op and make my darling husband pull in to this driveway. Now, I thought it was just another apple orchard we were pulling in to, but it was actually someone's front yard. I mulled that around in my consciousness for a couple seconds and decided "Totally fine!" I just wanna take a quick pic of my kids in front of their apple tree. They even had an old Radio Flyer wagon sitting there too. It was perfect. It did kind of remind me of when you see those military guys in movies get rushed out a helicopter or something, "GO! GO! GO! MOVE OUT MEN!" I sounded a bit like that.

That's four generations of us girls, there. Pretty awesome!

Tons of fun! It was a very nice ending to our apple themed lessons. Here is my post about Apple Themed Activities for Kids!

A couple weeks ago, we discovered E standing on top of her changing table after nap. Which basically means that she climbed out of her crib and then climbed up her changing table. Both are very impressive, but heart-stoppingly scary! So, I demanded that D drag her changing table out of her room and put the toddler rail on her crib. We got rid of her dresser a couple months ago, cause we were just using the drawers in her changing table for all her stuff. So, she had nothing but a toddler bed in her room. It was kind of sad. I was perusing around the Pottery Barn website and noticed this awesome deal for bedroom furniture. We, of course, ordered it and while waiting for it to arrive, I decided L could use a little sprucing up in his room.

We had two of his walls taken care of in the way of decor, but one wall was seriously lacking. I saw these on the PB Kids website and absolutely fell in love, but not for $40.

I used my brain and did some research and then I went down to IKEA and got this little curtain wire thingy and also some clips and Voila, for $12, it went from this:

to this:

It's now a perfect place to display all of his art work that he's so proud of. I'm going to put another one above it, too. Here's the rest of his room, just in case you're wondering.

And, yes, he really does keep his room this clean (most of the time). ;)

  1. That is a great idea and I love the look! Where did you get the little clips? Did they come with it at Ikea? I am a new follower from Women Who Do It All. Vicky from www.messforless.net

  2. Thanks so much! I got the clips from IKEA also. They were sitting right next to the wire curtain rod thingy. I think they were $3 of $4. Thanks so much for following me and for your question! :D
