Hi everyone! I'm Mackenzie from Friday Night Date Night and am SO EXCITED to be here on
Between U & Me! Thanks Courtney for this opportunity!
I blog about dating your spouse. Since Hubby and I are still in school, we have a very limited budget. Especially for extras like dates. This being the case, we are determined to have date night once a week even if its at home and with little to no cash. I am going to share some tips on how to have a fun group date on a a budget.
Hubby was born and raised in Germany. So, back in October we decided to have an Oktoberfest party.
We had so much fun getting ready for this! I sent out invitations, made costumes, and prepared some really fun games.
1. Instead of buying invitations, I made my own. I simply googled Oktoberfest images, found one I liked, and created an invitation on Word. Done and Done. Not to mention free.
2. We had Oktoberfest appropriate food too. Sausages were a must.
3. Rather than having a bakery make pretzels, we bought frozen ones for super cheap while still staying with the theme.
4. I made all of the girls aprons to achieve the traditional german look. I went strait to the discount aisle at Wal Mart, and grabbed the first white fabric I saw. I got 6 yards of fabric for $5.
5. Lederhosen (traditional german suspenders) are tough to find. And pricy too! So, I made all the boys a pair instead. I simply sewed together three pieces of ribbon. They were then safety pinned to their pants to make them look legit.
6. Pretzel sticks were also available. You can never have too much food! And I thought it would be good to have different varieties.
7. I bought the ribbon/lace for the costumes on clearance at Wal Mart. I think each role was $1. Two for the lederhosen and two for the aprons. $4 ain't to shabby for 10 people!
Like the lederhosen, the aprons were really quick and easy to make. I even threw in a few pleats to make them prettier. Go me! Without using a pattern, I cut out a general apron shape and sewed up the edges. Nothing fancy. At all. I have zero very limited sewing experience, so if I can do it, you can do it. After that, I pinched a few pieces at the top to create pleats and added a bit of lacy ribbon at the bottom. Viola! German aprons!
After all was said and done, I spent around $20 for this group date. Whoo hoo right?!
It was a blast. Don't stress about costumes. Your only going to wear them for a few hours. Who cares if the sewing isn't perfect?
The important thing is spending time with your spouse. As our lives get busier, it becomes harder and harder to find time and money for date night. Get creative! You would be surprised what you can pull together with little or no money. Our friends had a blast too!
Thanks again for having me here today! I hope you stop by Friday Night Date Night and see what other fun dates we have had.
Great post! Thanks for sharing :)
